Taurus brakes and plugs
Today I did some work on my mother-in-law's '97 Ford Taurus. It is a decent car with low mileage. She needed an oil change, new plugs, new front brakes and rotors.
This was more difficult than I anticipated for two reasons. First the lug nuts were on too tight. I used a lugnut wrench, one that has four different sizes, and I bent it without loosening the lug buts at all. I then used an 18" long 1/2" drive ratchet. Only after my fath-in-law stepped and bounced on the ratchet a few times did it break loose. Impressively tight but that tight and it can warp the rotor, perhaps that is why I had to replace them.
Second, two of the plugs were tucked back in a place not very accesible. We had to remove the cover off the top of the engine, the air hoses disconnect a few other things and then with a couple extensions and a wobbly it was doable. Thank goodness for wobblies.
Got it all done and back in shape. Just in time for the snow to come.
