Fun with water

I had a bunch of fun with wholes in my water pipes. Water, water everywhere. Where is my tub?

In my house I had to close the valve on the main water line in the house to do some repair work. Two of the sections of pipe I had to repair were copper and one was a pex line. I had never used pex previously and have alwyas been skeptical of it. I borrowed a crimper and with a couple rings inserted a valve into a line. It took me barely 5 minutes and that was even having to figure out how to use the crimping tool. That was incredibly easy.

On the other hand, the soldering of the copper pipes did not go so fast. Admittedly, I am not very good at soldering, but it still too significantly longer (hours) to get the job done. I had to cut the pipe, clean up the burrs, clean the pipe, flux it, heat it, apply the solder. It was in a tight spot and I used a carbon fiber heat shielding blanket. That worked amazingly well. It kept me from catching the stud on fire and burning down the house.

As a "lay-plumber", the pex was so easy and I will be happy to install more of it.
